The NRDC Action Fund and Headcount are banding together to release the Best of Bonnaroo compilation to promote action on climate change. The album features 17 live Bonnoroo performances from artists such as Wilco, Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson and is available at www.musicforaction.org. Before downloading the music, fans are asked to email their senators, representatives, local media, and the President to urge legislation on climate change. Although the music is free whether you participate or not, the artists hope that fans will join them in raising their voice for climate change legislation.

Last June, the House of Representatives approved an energy bill that would reduce heat -trapping gas emissions and increase green energy jobs. President Obama told world leaders he would reduce carbon emissions by 17 percent over the next decade. With two critical branches of the legislative body on board with the green movement, the Senate has made little movement toward any green legislation. The artists participating in this compilation hope that if enough people raise their voices, changes will be made. “This generation has an opportunity to be remembered as one that confronted environmental challenges and took responsibility for the future. With that opportunity comes the responsibility to speak out,” said Jack Johnson, a featured artist on the album.

HeadCount, a civic engagement organization, and the NRDC Action Fund, an advocacy group for green energy and pollution reducing legislation, have teamed up with nonprofit environmental groups such as Oxfam America, the Energy Action Coalition, The Worldwatch Insitute, Grist.org and 350.org, as well as the online music site Reverb, to urge voters young and old to speak out and spark action within the government.

The United States is undeniably the world leader in global scale legislation, and major legislation on pollution reduction and clean, renewable energy would have an impact on the world’s largest, and highest polluting, countries such as India and China.
