Taking a cue from NPR’s Exclusive First Listen Series, The New York Times is getting into the streaming-album-preview game, choosing The National’s High Violet as their inaugarul LP. The album is the Brooklyn-based band’s first in three years, following 2008’s critically-acclaimed Boxer, one of the year’s top-rated indie rock records.

Says R.E.M.’s Mike Mills of The National’s live show, “This is the most amazing thing I’ve heard in years.” Adds singer Michael Stipe, “It’s instantaneous. It touches you.”

The album will stream here until April 27, and will hit stores May 11 via 4AD records.
