Songs You Need To Hear: Delta Spirit, “Bushwick Blues”

Videos by American Songwriter

Delta Spirit “Bushwick Blues” (Waits Room Version) from Yours Truly on Vimeo.

This acoustic ode to a souring relationship, which namechecks one of the rougher neighborhoods in Brooklyn, hits us in all the right places. Warm guitars, a plaintive harmonica’s wail, and singer Matt Vasquez’s haunted vocals dole out the goosebumps. “Do you remember that night we took the L out in Bushwick, it was colder than hell,” sings Vasquez, who actually hails from San Diego. “My love is strong and my heart is weak after all.” The song comes from Delta Spirit’s 2010 album, History From Below.
