Songs You Need To Hear: Bronze Radio Return, “Down There”

Videos by American Songwriter

Bronze Radio Return are a six-piece band out of Connecticut who met at the Hartt School of Music. Their debut album, 2009’s Old Time Speaker, set the template: inviting vocals, warm harmonies, and organic arrangements. After its release, the band hit the road hard, and were lucky enough to play for President Obama at a local rally.

Their new one, Shake! Shake! Shake!, due March 29, was recorded in laid-back Norman, Oklahoma, where friends of friends would drop by and lend them instruments. “I feel like the songwriting is really starting to take on an identity of it’s own,” says keyboard player Matt Warner.

Take a listen to the opening track, “Down There,” an ode to good times and fine people, below.

“Meet me in the city where the streets run down,
Gather up the crowd in an empty town,
‘Cause there the people speed up and the time slows down,
Oh, I’ll see you down there.”
