Songs You Need To Hear: Eilen Jewell, “Queen Of The Minor Key”

Videos by American Songwriter

“If Neko Case, Madeleine Peyroux and Billie Holiday had a baby girl who grew up to front a rockabilly band, she’d probably sound a lot like Eilen Jewell,” raved The Washington Post about Eilen Jewell, a golden-voiced singer-songwriter from Boston, who released the acclaimed Sea Of Tears in 2009 and Butcher Holler: A Tribute To Loretta Lynn the following year.

Take a listen to the rollicking title track to her upcoming album, Queen Of The Minor Key (due June 28 on Signature Sounds), below. To come up with the record, Jewell had to battle a serious case of writer’s block, eventually holing up in a cabin in her home state of Idaho (sans electricity or running water) to reconnect with her muse, which she found again in a major way.
