Pure X – You’re In It Now by Acéphale

In July, New York’s Acéphale Records will release Pure X’s (fomerly Pure Ecstasy) debut album, Pleasure, but in the meantime the Austin band is re-releasing the EP You’re In It Now (Acéphale/Light Lodge), with a video for the druggy single of the same name. “You’re In It Now” is a late ’60s Dead “space jam” meets Doors stoner minimalism, but Nate Grace’s nasally singing – “that morning light/been up all night” – comes on like an old-time refrain utterly soaked in reverb and backed by lethargic drums. Like fellow Texas ’60s soul hounds, Fergus & Geronimo, Pure X pluck chord progressions straight from a bygone era but make them utterly their own.
