Gillian Welch Announces North American Tour Dates

Gillian Welch has announced the dates for the first leg of her North American Tour, a 31-date trek which will take her from Santa Cruz, California to Charleston, South Carolina, and includes stops at the Newport Folk Festival and High Sierra Music Festival.

Welch and her partner David Rawlings are touring in support of The Harrow & The Harvest, Welch’s first album in eight years. According to the Decemberists’ Colin Meloy, the record represents “a new Southern sound, with the sort of songs you wouldn’t be surprised to hear issuing from some verdant, wooded hollow in Appalachia; Songs you’d expect to hear hollered from an Asheville grange hall, all too late in the evening. Songs with the wry humor of the back porch. Listen to this record with the lights low. Listen to it on an old radio, cradled next to your ear.”
