Though more than 3.2 million items were lost when the Sony/PIAS warehouse was burned down in London’s Monday night riots, the company plans to resume shipping orders next week.
PIAS, the UK’s largest indie label distributor, issued a statement yesterday: “Sony DADC have actioned their Business Continuity Plan and are backed up and running from a new control room in Enfield. PIAS continue to work with them to minimize the impact on the business, a number one priority for all our labels and clients. Sony DADC have identified a temporary distribution partner and it is envisaged that they will be in a position to pick, pack and ship orders in the course of next week.”
London 24 reports that three arrests for the destruction of the warehouse have been made. Two 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old were arrested for violent disorder and arson. The youngest was freed on bail and the other two are still being held in police cells.
Meanwhile, efforts are being made to support the 150+ labels. The campaign LabelLove, organized by Dan Salter, accepts donations to go towards labels that lost stock in the fire. Those who’d like to help can contact email@example.com
