Song Premiere: Little Silver, “Pictures Of You” (The Cure Cover)

Videos by American Songwriter

On Dress Up, their new EP of covers, husband-and-wife duo Little Silver (Steve Curtis and Erika Simonian) tackle the songsĀ of Sun Kil Moon, Chris Whitley, The Speedies and New York indie rockers Hem (of which Steve is a founding member). They also try The Cure on for size, covering the fan-favorite “Pictures of You.”

“SteveĀ and I both remember exactly where we were when we first heard this song, one of the most evocative, emotive anthems of the ’80s,” Simonian tells American Songwriter

“Steve was in some cooler kid’s dorm room his freshman year at college, I was in my highschool boyfriend’s room, leaning against the wall with his mod sister as he played the record. It was by far the hardest song to record on this EP, both because people all know it, and stakes are high, but also because it’s so easy to overdo. The lyric is insanely melodramatic, but Robert Smith made it meaningful, and we had to do the same if we were going to even touch it.
