Mumford and Sons Unveil Details For New Album Babel

Fans of Mumford and Sons were disappointed when the band was forced to cancel two performances this June due to front-man Marcus Mumford’s broken hand. The singer, however, is on a speedy road to recovery, and the band’s fans now have more reason to rejoice. The group announced today that their second studio album, titled Babel, will be released September 25 on Glassnote Records.

“We are more than excited to release Babel into the world,” said the band in a statement. “We had started writing new songs well before we got into the studio to record. At first, we peeled ourselves off the road quite reluctantly. We love playing live, obviously, but it had also become an important part of our creative process, we had been writing and rehearsing in soundchecks, and sort of ‘road-testing’ new songs on our very gracious audiences”

Attendees of Mumford and Sons’ recent concerts have been able to preview some of the tracks from the upcoming album such as “Ghosts That We Knew” and “Lover’s Eyes”.

The new album will apparently feature more mature themes than the band’s breakthrough Sigh No More. Rolling Stone quotes bassist Ted Dwane as saying, “The road has rubbed off into the album … Being away so much for the last couple of years is inevitably a theme on the record, because it’s something that we’ve all shared.”

Mumford and Sons begins its U.S. tour to promote Babel in August. The album will be available to pre-order through the band’s website on July 23.
