On the heels of the massive 12-12-12 Concert For Sandy Relief, music continues to be a driving force on the road to recovery for the New Jersey shore area. On The Beach – A Sandy Relief Concert will take place on the Asbury Park Boardwalk on January 2, 2013, headlined by My Morning Jacket. The show is organized and produced by three Jersey Shore natives, all of whom were affected by Hurricane Sandy: acclaimed photographer, filmmaker, musician Danny Clinch; writer, producer and activist Tim Donnelly; and concert promoter Tony Pallagrosi of Concerts East.
Proceeds from “On The Beach – A Sandy Relief Concert” will be given to Jersey Shore focused non-profits: Waves For Water, RebuildRecover, Coastal Habitat for Humanity, The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and Food for Thought By The Sea.
Pallagrosi, a former member of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes states: “Similar to the many contractors, utility workers and generous people who traveled great distances from out of state to help our beloved New Jersey beach areas, we have a great band from Louisville lending a supporting hand. The Jersey Shore, and Asbury Park in particular, has a rich heritage of musical angels, so naturally we have plenty of nationally recognized local artists on the bill, from Nicole Atkins and River City Extension to the Tangiers Blues Band, which features noted photographer Danny Clinch.”
Clinch, a Jersey Shore native, adds: “I met Ben Jaffe and Clint Madgen from Preservation Hall Jazz Band when we were all at the ‘Big Apple for Big Easy’ benefit for Katrina victims in 2005. We became fast friends. So it was ironic that I was stranded in New Orleans with them as Sandy changed my area forever. They knew what we were going to be facing and told us they’d be there for us. My Morning Jacket is also a part of our extended family and jumped on board to join our local musicians.”
“I live in Toms River (which was right in the path of Sandy) and although the initial devastation is mind-blowing, we know from the past that after the news cycle slows, people are still very much in need for a long time to come. That’s why these fundraisers are so important. Here are a few photographs I took on Nov. 2nd 2012.”
