The Band: Brighton, England-based folk quartet House Of Hats
The Song: the title track to This Love, which will see its US debut on June 10.
Fun Fact: House Of Hats’ members are all former solo artists; three of them met in music school. It’s a good thing they found each other — their harmonies have earned them comparisons to CSNY and Fleet Foxes.
Liner Notes: “‘This Love’ is a song about love–but it’s also about the imperfections within that love and the aspiration for prolonged happiness in a relationship,” says band member Alex Gigante. “I always like to think of songs in the context of an album as family members. You have songs that have brothers or sisters and are close, and some that have second cousins or distant relatives. ‘This Love’ is the head of the family for sure on this, our first record. We recorded two versions of it–the original in three-part harmony and the second with Noddy taking the lead, both of which are on the album.

“I think because we have all experienced working as solo artists, we each have our own artistic expression. With House of Hats, we try to keep that expression but tie it into something collective that works. I guess recording different versions of ‘This Love’ is our own way of demonstrating that in its most basic form.”
