ARTIST: Brandy Zdan

Videos by American Songwriter

SONG: “More of a Man”

HOMETOWN: Winnipeg, MB, Canada

CURRENT LOCATION: Nashville, Tennessee

AMBITIONS: Pushing my artistic boundaries daily, make a record with Blake Mills.

TURN-OFFS: Flips flops, bad guitar tone, inefficiency and indecisiveness.

TURN-ONS: A fine peaty scotch, pedal steel guitar, love letters.

DREAM GIG: Ryman Auditorium

FAVORITE LYRIC: “Love’s the key to the games that we play, but don’t mind losing” – War on Drugs, Lost in the Dream.  “My heart is wild, my bones are steel” – Song for Zula, Phosphorecent

SONG I WISH I WROTE: Townes Van Zandt’s “Highway Kind”

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Jenny Lewis, Daniel Lanois, Esther Perel, Father John Misty, and Charles Bukowski.

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE:  Playing as a “sidewoman” with The Trishas at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco. Next to my home town festival, The Winnipeg Folk Festival, this is my favorite.

I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSE…My girlfriends and I were realizing we are more “manly” than most of the men we date.  It seems the well of manly men who get their hands dirty, can change your tire, carry your amplifier is running dry.
