Bruce Springsteen revealed plans for a new solo album during a a surprise call in to SiriusXM’s E Street Radio Wednesday morning.
As reported by Consequence of Sound, the interview took place on the station’s weekly Live From E Street Nation talk show, and see the Boss himself dish on the upcoming E Street Band tour in support of the recent reissue of The River, including how he’s been working on a solo effort without the group.
“The project I’ve been working on was more of a solo project,” Springsteen said.“It wasn’t a project I was going to probably take the band out on, so I said, ‘Gee, that’s going to push the band playing again until a ways in the future. It’ll be nice to get some playing in so you don’t wind up being two or three years between E Street tours.’ This will give us a chance to get out there and stretch our muscles a little bit.”
He also dished on details for the upcoming tour, which will see him playing The River in full each night, with selected outtakes and fan favorites changed out in the encores each night. Springsteen says he’s also reconfigured the band for this tour, opting to leave out the horn section and choir this go-around.
“We stripped it down to the basic band it’s been since ’85,” Springsteen said. “It’ll be a little more of a rock band format. I’m looking forward to that for a little while and seeing how that feels again. It should be perfect for this record and what we’re doing right now.”
