There are few greater sources of inspiration for writers than traveling. Packing up and hitting the road often leads to fertile ground for new ideas and new songs. Having lived in Michigan, Texas, Minnesota, Tennessee, and a number of other places, singer-songwriter Frankie Lee knows a thing or two about traveling around, his wanderer’s eye fixed on rural American life on his full-length debut American Dreamer.

Lee wrote the tunes for American Dreamer during his time working on a pig farm outside of his home base of St. Paul, the early morning commutes providing ample time for writing and reflecting. The album comes after stints in Austin and Los Angeles that honed Lee’s musical chops and gave him the experiences he needed to put together his first EP, Middle West. His trademark blend of indie rock and cowboy twang permeates American Dreamer, particularly on tracks like “High and Dry” and “Where Do We Belong.”

American Dreamer is out July 8. Stream it in its entirety below.
