American singer/songwriter Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy (Will Oldham) is set to release a new album next spring. The new release, entitled Beware! will be released on Chicago-based indie label Drag City on March 17, 2009. The album, referred to in a press release as his ‘Biggest and most ambitious album to date,’ features Oldham and his backing band of Josh Abrams, Jennifer Hutt, Emmett Kelly and Michael Zerang, along with special guests Dee Alexander, Leroy Bach, Jim Becker, Robert Cruz, DV DeVincentis, Jon Langford, Greg Leisez, Rob Mazurek, Nicole Mitchell and Azita Youseffi.

Beware! will be Oldham’s 16th overall release, and his eleventh under the Bonnie Billy moniker (his first albums in the mid ’90s were released under the names Palace Brothers, Palace Music, with one in his own name).

Throughout Oldham’s extremely prolific career as a musician (he has also acted in 12 films), he has continually defied attempts to label his music, garnering comparisons to such diverse styles as Americana, folk, roots, punk, and indie rock genre. His work has received considerable critical acclaim; There Is No-One What Will Take Care of You (1993), Viva Last Blues (1995), and I See a Darkness (1999) have appeared on several greatest albums lists.

Bonnie Billy plans to launch a tour around the same time as the album’s release. Further details have yet to be announced.
