Cincinnati folk-rockers Over The Rhine are set to release their first studio album since 2007. Following the acclaimed The Trumpet Child, The Long Surrender will be released February 8 on the band’s own label, Great Speckled Dog. Produced by Joe Henry, the LP arrives 20 years after the husband-wife duo’s debut.

“With The Long Surrender, our vision was to make a record we couldn’t imagine in advance,” said multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Linford Detweiler. “We wanted to be surprised. We wanted to remain open, let the record unfold in real time. Fortunately, Joe loves to be surprised as well.”

One pleasant surprise is Lucinda Williams’s guest spot on “Undamned.” The album presents a soul-tinged blend of Americana, bolstered by Henry’s experience at the desk. “We’re really only reflecting what we’ve already heard,” Detweiler described, “a mix of all the music we grew up with and were drawn to.”
