Extra, extra, read all about it. We’d like to be the first ones to tell you that Charlie Faye will self-release Travels With Charlie on August 23.

Okay, slow down. Who is Charlie Faye, you say?  She’s the Austin-based singer-songwriter we fell in love with last year when she released her stunning debut Wilson St. Her new one takes its title from Jon Steinbeck’s Travels With Charley (we see what you did there), and chronicles her ten-month cross-country trek in 2010, during which she lived and played in ten different cities over a period of ten months.

The ten cities Faye settled down in were Tucson, AZ, Los Angeles, CA, Portland, OR, Boulder, CO, Shreveport, LA, Burlington, VT, Milwaukee, WI, Nashville, TN, Asheville, NC, and New York, NY.

“I didn’t want to do it the normal way,” says Faye about her novel approach to touring. “I figured, if I’m going to spend the rest of my life traveling around this country playing music, I want to actually get to know it. I want to have friends in these towns, I want to have a favorite coffee shop, I want to have hiked up a mountain with the bartender at the venue where I played—I want to actually connect. Not just pass through. Not just gloss over. I’ve never been interested in the one-night stand.”

Each song on the new album has the corresponding city in which she wrote it attached to its title. Faye will hit each city again, only much more briefly this time, when she heads out on tour this summer in support of Travels With Charlie. We wish her the best of luck!
