Caroline Spence won the grand prize for the 2013 American Songwriter Lyric Contest with her song “Mint Condition.” She’s now premiering the single as a special release for Valentine’s Day.

“Before winning the lyric contest, I didn’t play this song at my shows,” says Spence. “I felt like I didn’t have the authority to sing about having a lasting love because I was so young. But I’ve realized “Mint Condition” is a song that expresses what we all want, regardless of age — a love that stays sweet through time.”

Since adding the song to her set list, Spence has gotten great feedback from her fans. “I played this song at Eddie’s Attic back in September and after the show a woman approached me and told me that she was getting married in a few months. She said that, at the reception, they were planning on having a special dance where couples were called to the floor based on how long they had been together, starting with the newlyweds and then all the way up to 50 years or more. She asked me if they could play my song for this dance. Obviously, I said yes. I was really touched that she saw her story in my song.”
