The Artist: Californian Americana group Rose’s Pawn Shop
The Song: “What Were You Waiting For?” from Gravity Well, out September 9.
Fun Fact: The band got its name from an unfortunate incident when lead singer Paul Givant’s ex-girlfirend, Rose, stole the band’s gear and instruments and sold them to a local pawn shop.
Songwriter Says: “A lot of this song was written pretty quickly by the band in our moving tour bus on the way home from finishing a string of shows in the Pacific Northwest. The melody and chanting idea just kind of arose spontaneously and we built on it. It’s about getting to the point in a troubled relationship that you know the other person just isn’t going to change, and it’s time to cut your loses and let go. It’s also kind of a “tell off” song, kind of in the tradition of Bob Dylan tunes like ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ and ‘It Ain’t Me, Babe’ and ‘Positively 4th Street.'”
