At first glance, Yamaha’s AG06 mixing console is a compact 6 channel desktop mixer – not necessarily a new idea. But quite quickly, the more you dive into the unit, the more features, functionality, and connectivity emerges. To call the AG06 a mixing console may be inaccurate, no matter what it says on the box. In fact, the AG06 functions more like a fully featured USB-powered audio interface complete with DSP, software control, hi-resolution audio, and iOS compatibility.
The AG0G includes all the basic functions of a desktop mixing console, and includes built-in DSP for compression, filters, EQ, and reverb, along with guitar amp simulation, which can all be engaged with onboard switches, and controlled and adjusted with the included DSP control software. Additionally, the AG06 produces pristine audio with its D-PRE mic preamps and 24bit/192kHz audio.
Having these features, and all of the FX presets, can help the novice user and experienced recordist alike quickly and easily fine-tune their sound for a variety of applications. The AG DSP controller software is especially intuitive, offering both “easy” and “expert” modes to help users of all levels. The AG06 gives user the option to record a dry signal, or to include the onboard fx, by choosing DRY CH 1-2, or INPUT MIX, which is especially useful for non-musicians that may be unfamiliar with DAW’s and effects. The AG06 is ideal for musicians looking for a streamlined, portable way to record their music to a computer, or any iOS device, as well as the singer-songwriter looking for a great stage sound. The AG06 also provides a great solution for webcasters, podcasters, and gamers via the loopback function, which allows for simultaneous recording of inputs, along with playback of audio sources, that can all be summed to your web streaming software for professional sounding results with minimal effort.
The AG06 comes ready with 6 simultaneous inputs; including 1 mic/line input, 1 mic/instrument input, a stereo keyboard input, and a stereo RCA input. There’s also a ⅛ inch auxiliary input, useful for playing back audio from your smartphone. There are 2 sets of stereo outputs, along with a ¼ inch headphone output, and ⅛ inch jack for a gaming headset. The AG06 comes with a download code for Cubase AI, so if you’re without a DAW, and this is your first interface, you’ll just need to add a microphone to be well on your way.
