iKey Audio Monitors
M-606 V2, List Price: $239.99 (per single unit)
Just as you have to see clearly to get where you’re going, you need true audio representation of what you hear to create the results you desire. iKey Audio ups the ante for audio clarity in the performance-to-price ratio competition with the second generation of their M series active studio monitors. The M-606 V2’s 6.5” LF driver pumps out enough low-end whump to sound full-bodied even without the use of a sub woofer. This could be as big a boon to the already cash-strapped songwriter as the economy-conscience retail price these monitors carry. The HF driver thoughtfully has a four-position rotary switch that offers one decibel accentuation, a neutral setting, and one or two decibels of attenuation. Where the HF switch is set, or course, is personal preference, but I found the one decibel cut produced the most natural sound. The zero cut/boost and the one decibel boost positions don’t sound harsh, however, and many would consider the extra high frequency headroom a plus. The back panel contains the usual array of input jacks (balanced XLR and TRS ¼”, unbalanced RCA), volume control and the aforementioned HF switch, making the M-606 V2 compatible in any project studio or professional application. The front panel looks dapper with its red low frequency driver and glowing red iKey Audio logo. iKey Audio’s M-606 V2’s succeeds in providing audio clarity in a moderately priced package with looks that kill.
