There is no doubt that Line 6 has put the most it has to offer into this new POD X3. The upgrade from its past predecessors is steep, as the X3 offers more power and a wider array of amp sounds and effects, and for the computer savvy musician, the X3 POD is equipped with a 2.0 USB output as well as a S/PDIF Stereo Digital Audio Output. The POD X3 also offers and array of possibilities for the vocalist and bass player.

The range of tonal options delivered in this POD is exceptional. It offers 78 Guitar Amp Models, 24 Guitar Cabinet Models, 98 Stomp-box and Studio effects, not to mention the bass and vocal options. A backlit LCD screen centers the bean-shaped pod, and serves as the “computer desktop” for the machine. Once you have found the sounds and combinations you dig, the POD X3 offers 128 User locations presets that will allow you to re-access these saved tones at a touch of a button. Another notable feature to the POD X3 is the separate left and right outputs, allowing you to plug into different amps. By utilizing this option, you can achieve a sweeping, layered guitar effect that will make it sound like you are playing in an arena, rather than in your living room.

For the musician who continues to search for that vintage or modern tone, the POD X3 may be what you’re looking for. Although, you might find yourself spending more time exploring the possibilities of digital replication, and staring at the orange glow of the LCD screen, more than actually playing your instrument. The POD X3’s collections of sounds and tonal possibilities is extensive, and could be a “technical musicians” dream, but for the old school player, this piece of machinery will must likely leave you frustrated and wanting to plug directly into a vintage Fender Deluxe.
