The Blake Shelton Signature guitar, by Michael Kelly Guitars, is a member of their well known, and well respected, Patriot line. The Patriot series can run the gamut from metal to country, blues to pop, and back, and you’d be hard-pressed to find an owner with a bad thing to say about it.

The Blake Shelton signature stands up proudly with the rest of the guitars in the Patriot line. It features a single cutaway, solid mahogany body and long-set neck with a ½” carved maple top that sports a black, green, and brown camouflage pattern designed with Blake Shelton to connect with his Country worldview. That same pattern can be found on the headstock along with Grover Rotomatic tuners. I’ve often evaluated the quality of a guitar by how well it stays in tune. From take to take, and from gig bag to stage, this guitar’s tuning holds steady. In fact, the build quality is just superb, and a pleasure to hold, and play. While not overtly heavy, like a Les Paul Custom, it’s got a nice weight to it that feels balanced and sturdy. It’s the kind of weight that gives you the confidence to play it hard, without handling like a piece of glass. It’s a beautifully crafted guitar, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t stand up to the demands of a working musician. The neck is Mahogany, with an Ebony fretboard that features a mother of pearl “deer track” inlay, complete with antlers at the 12th fret. The Ebony construction, along with the long-set neck, provide for remarkable sustain and comfortable playability on each of it’s 22 frets. The fretboard is truly silky, and lends itself to easier bends, no matter what gauge strings you choose(the guitar comes with a light gauge string), and the sustain would make Nigel Tufnel proud. The Rockfield SWC Humbucker pickup sounds warm, and is quite versatile. Black volume and tone control knobs match the pickup, while being offset by chrome hardware, including a TunePros Tune-O-Matic bridge. When run direct, or through a Fender 112 Deluxe Plus, the Blake Shelton signature guitar sounded great. Considering that the guitar only employs a single pickup, it produces surprisingly rich, warm tones with plenty of character. The Blake Shelton Signature Patriot would be a fabulous addition to any guitarists’ arsenal. It’s at home being strummed, or shredded upon, and it’s up to the demands of the most discerning player. As an added bonus, if you need to keep your chops up while in a tree stand, you’ll blend right in.
