Summer NAMM, Day 1: Photos

Summer NAMM, which is held in Nashville each July, is hardly the beast of its Anaheim winter cousin. The Music City version features far fewer exhibitors, not to mention less bikini-clad women and Nikki Sixx clones. That being said, there is still a bounty of great stuff to behold. Here are some of our highlights from Day 1. (Click here to view photos from Day 2 of NAMM.)

The VOX Apache guitar series caught our eye with its teardrop design. This style of guitar debuted for VOX back in the’ 60s, and we welcome its return. These axes feature a basswood body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard.

Roland, which is perhaps best known for its line of electronic drum kits, showed off its GA-212 guitar amp at NAMM on Thursday. One of their so-called “progressive modeling” amps, the GA-212 is a powerhouse — built specifically for the stage.

The Alvarez Masterworks series impressed us with its Green Abalone inlays and ebony bridge pins. The series comprises 11 different models and includes Dreadnoughts, Folk, and Classical versions. Sign us up!

¡Dios mío! That’s quite a specimen of a bass. This six-string beauty is courtesy of Utrera Custom Basses and Guitars, an outfit run out of Caracas, Venezuela.

The Lâg i200 OPS series of solid-body electrics piqued our interest with its handsome finishes.

Fishman showcased its Triple Play Wireless Guitar controller Thursday. The cutting-edge device allows guitar players to draw on a variety of instrumental sounds (piano, drums, samples, etc) by connecting wirelessly with a computer or iOS device.

We first locked eyes with the Godin Seagull Natural Elements series (pictured in the center) back at Winter NAMM, and we’re still in love. The eco-friendly guitars are constructed out of woods (spruce, rosewood, silver leaf maple, wild cherry), sourced from other industries, that would have been otherwise discarded.

Martin’s OO-DB Jeff Tweedy signature is trying to break your heart, in every way. Enter our July/August 2012 Deathbed contest for a chance to win one.
