“In his engaging, expressive country-folk songs, Sam Outlaw has mastered the art of lyrical economy. In each of the 13 tracks on his gorgeous new album, Tenderheart, he uses just the words he needs to draw vivid pictures and expose deep emotions; there are no jammed-in syllables, no jigsaw-puzzle phrases.”
That’s how AS contributor Lynne Margolis summed up Outlaw’s songwriting mojo on his latest album in our May-June print edition. Back in September, Outlaw brought said mojo to AmericanaFest in Nashville. That week he found time to stop by the AS office, where he performed “Look At You Now,” with Molly Jenson on harmony vocals and guitar.
“I guess this song is about the danger of good intentions,” Outlaw said. Give it a look above.
