The hitmaker released the official music video for “Jaded” on Tuesday afternoon (May 16). The mid-tempo melody differs from her latest empowerment anthem “Flowers,” as she reflects on a previous relationship that left her heart in pieces.

Through Cyrus’ recognizable rasp, listeners can almost hear the pain she suffered during the breakup. She co-wrote the razor-sharp lyrics alongside esteemed songwriters Greg Kurstin and Sarah Aarons.

You’re not even willin’ to look at your part | You just jump in the car and head down to the bar ’til you’re blurry | Don’t know when to stop | So you take it too far | I don’t know where you are, and I’m left in the dark ’til I’m worried | Ooh, and it hurts me, she sings in the second verse. And it’s a fuckin’ shame that it ended like that | You broke your own heart, but you’d never say that | We went to Hell, but we never came back, she sings.

Within the music video directed by Jacob Bixenman, Cyrus finds herself grieving the divorce. However, she quickly finds her confidence. She embraces her body in the clip by displaying her inked back on pure white bedsheets and her toned torso in a revealing one-piece swimsuit. Toward the end of the video, she dives into a pool to symbolize a rebirth or new beginning.

“Jaded” lives on Cyrus’ recently released eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation. The 13-song tracklist also includes “Thousand Miles” featuring Brandi Carlile, “Muddy Feet” with Sia, “Wonder Woman,” and “River,” among other buzz-worthy tunes.

The platinum-selling artist turned to social media over the weekend, leaving hints about the “Jaded” music video. The first photo is Cyrus poolside striking a pose in the metallic gold swimsuit she wears within the clip, while the second Instagram post features the vocalist in bed shirtless with the lyrics as the caption.

“You’re Lonely now & I hate it,” she wrote alongside the carousel.

Cyrus recently celebrated a career milestone, as her eight-week Billboard Hot 100 track “Flowers” also became the “fastest song to reach 1 billion streams in Spotify history.” Before joining the Billions Club, Cyrus also dropped a documentary-like concert called Backyard Sessions on Disney + to share exclusive insights on her vulnerable collection.
