3 Eternal Oasis Songs That Will Play Forever

Unless you’ve been living under a rock and roll-less rock, you know the British-born band known as Oasis is about to go back on tour. While the brothers who are central to the band—Liam and Noel Gallagher—have long been feuding, it appears that now they are ready to bury the proverbial hatchet and join one another on a slew of gigs.

Here below, to celebrate that fact, we wanted to explore three songs from the band that remain timeless. A trio of tracks that swell and soar and shimmer with buzzy rock guitars. Indeed, these are three eternal Oasis songs that will play forever.

“Wonderwall” from (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (1995)

This acoustic-driven song from the band’s 1995 LP (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? was one of the most popular songs from the decade. It’s one of those songs just about any person who picked up a six-string tried to play. But no one can quite get it right like Oasis, with Liam’s bendy, brilliant voice and Noel’s surreal, dreamy, stream-of-consciousness lyrics. Nevertheless, the song remains a classic from one of the greatest musical decades. And on the tune, which hit No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, Liam sings,

Today is gonna be the day
That they’re gonna throw it back to you
By now you should’ve somehow
Realized what you gotta do
I don’t believe that anybody
Feels the way I do about you now

Backbeat, the word is on the street
That the fire in your heart is out
I’m sure you’ve heard it all before
But you never really had a doubt
I don’t believe that anybody feels
The way I do about you now

“Champagne Supernova” from (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (1995)

A seven-and-a-half-minute song that recalls the psychedelic songs of The Beatles in the 1960s, this is another song from the band’s 1995 album that feels as much like a dream as it does a work of art. If you were to dissect Noel’s lyrics, it’s unclear what meaning you might find other than a pastiche of meanings, a mosaic of meanings. But there is something about the composition when it all comes together that just hits your heart perfectly. And on this number, Liam sings,

How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky

“Don’t Look Back in Anger” from (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (1995)

Perhaps the most rocking of the songs on this list, this song features Noel singing his own lyrics, providing a more punchy vocal sound than Liam’s surreal dreams. But the result is no less enjoyable. This song also feels a bit more like a short story than the others above. And on the soaring song, Noel belts out with confidence,

Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don’t you know you might find
A better place to play?
You said that you’d never been
But all the things that you’ve seen
Slowly fade away

So I start a revolution from my bed
‘Cause you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside, summertime’s in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
You ain’t ever gonna burn my heart out
