76-Year-Old’s Performance of “Rapper’s Delight” on ‘The Voice’ Is the Best Thing You’ll See Today

While stars like Snoop Dogg and Reba McEntire bring the competition on The Voice, the UK’s version of the same show welcomed singers like LeAnn Rimes and Sir Tom Jones to help showcase the talent in the United Kingdom. Throughout the current season, The Voice UK already produced a few memorable moments like a marriage proposal. But recently, 76-year-old Bette Reynolds stole the show when she took the stage for the first time in nearly 60 years. And her performance on “Rapper’s Delight” left the judges shocked.

Although not the same age as the other contestants, nothing stopped Reynolds from walking on the stage with pride. Not afraid of the panel of coaches or the audience, the singer explained, “I haven’t been on stage since 1966. But, at 76, you’re still a young thing if it’s in your mind.” She continued, “I want to do myself proud and I want to make my family proud. It’s a big privilege to be here.”

Proving that age is just a number, fans loved Reynolds’ performance as coaches Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones decided to turn their chairs. Getting a chance to speak about her life and her journey to return to the stage, the singer admitted it hasn’t always been great. For years, she helped take care of her husband, who suffered from dementia. Still, not letting the bad times dictate her future, Reynolds appeared all smiles as she channeled The Sugarhill Gang.

‘The Voice UK’ Not The Only Milestone For Bette Reynolds

Even her son, Stewart Reynolds, took a moment to share how proud he was of his mother. He posted a picture of her on his Instagram, writing, “My Mom has been having a year. She was 24/7 caregiver for my Dad who had dementia for years. Dad died in January.” He revealed that his mother “filmed The Voice UK in February.”

While performing on The Voice UK is a huge milestone, Stewart added his mother, “released 2 songs since and we just finished filming her Christmas music video. She’s an inspiration.”

Fans couldn’t agree more, commenting, “She’s a pistol!! Wish I had a granny like her.” Another person added, “God bless your mom…she’s a rock star!!”
