Who Broke Big Records at the 2024 MTV VMAs?

First of all, Taylor Swift broke multiple records at the MTV VMAs. She broke Beyoncé’s record for most VMAs ever—Bey was holding out at 26 awards, but Swift was quickly gaining. All she had to do was win five of her 10 nominations, and she scooped up seven. This puts her at a total of 30 VMAs. Swift also broke her own record for most awards held for Video of the Year. She has now won the award five times—no other artist has won more than twice.

Swift also tied with Britney Spears with her Best Pop win. Both women have won the award three times. She tied Beyoncé with her Best Collaboration win, now sitting at three awards there as well. Finally, she became the first artist to win Artist of the Year two times consecutively, and the first artist to win Best Direction three times consecutively.

Eminem broke the tie he held with Peter Gabriel for most awarded male solo artist at the MTV VMAs. He won two awards, Best Hip-Hop and Best Visual Effects, putting him over Gabriel with 15 awards. Additionally, Eminem is the most-awarded rapper in MTV VMAs history, breaking the record previously held by Nicki Minaj.

With Chappell Roan winning Best New Artist, she continued the streak of amazing female artists winning the coveted award. The Best New Artist award has gone to a woman for the past seven years.
