Hitting the road to promote his new documentary titled Rock Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Springsteen decided to discuss his wife fighting a rare blood cancer. The singer revealed, “She’s doing good, we caught it early, which was important. It’s a tough disease, it’s very fatiguing.” Although offering some good news surrounding his wife, Scialfa was first diagnosed with multiple myeloma back in 2018.

Gaining Fame And Love With Bruce Springsteen

Not shying away from the disease, Scialfa used the documentary to help spread awareness about the illness. “This affects my immune system, so I have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go.” She added, “Every once in a while, I come to a show or two and I can sing a few songs on stage, and that’s been a treat. That’s the new normal for me right now, and I’m OK with that.”

While continuing to fight the cancer, Scialfa admitted that it hasn’t been easy, especially when it comes to touring. Needing some time to focus on her health, she explained, “Touring has become a challenge for me.” Still, having a love for music, nothing could keep her from returning. “I’ve been performing with this band for 40 years. With those first performances, it felt so good to be back onstage.”

Married since the early 1990s, Scialfa found fame thanks to being a member of Springsteen’s E Street Band. Touring with the band for several decades, the musician landed a spot alongside her husband in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
