Bruce Springsteen’s mother wanted her son to grow up to write books. It looks like she finally got her wish.

This fall, the Boss will release his autobiography, Born To Run, which he has worked on in private for the past seven years.

“Writing about yourself is a funny business,” Springsteen writes in the book. ”But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I’ve tried to do this.”

The book, which is being published by Simon & Schuster, will be available in hardcover, ebook and audio editions on September 27.

“This is the book we’ve been hoping for,” said Jonathan Karp, publisher of Simon & Schuster. “Readers will see their own lives in Bruce Springsteen’s extraordinary story, just as we recognize ourselves in his songs.”
