When Kelsea Ballerini was 15, she walked into an independent label in Nashville and played a song she’d written herself. The label representative responded, “‘There’s already a Taylor Swift.” But the “Half Of My Hometown” singer has spent the past decade carving out her own identity in the country-pop landscape. Her first-ever single, “Love Me Like You Mean It,” made her the first female artist to send a debut single to the top of Billboard’s Country Airplay chart since Carrie Underwood in 2006. Ten years later, Ballerini is celebrating another impressive milestone.

Kelsea Ballerini Scores First-Ever No. 1 Album on This Chart
Patterns dropped Oct. 25. Kelsea Ballerini’s fifth studio album sees the Grammy nominee getting “super autobiographical”, taking fans on a journey when listened to in order.
“written from my truest self, but meant for you to project onto your own lives and try on for fit,” Ballerini wrote in an Oct. 24 social media post. “whether you relate, want a song to cry in the back of an uber music video style to, dramatically/drunkenly tell someone how much you love them, or scream sing about moments gone wrong before they went right…it’s all yours.”

Clearly, the songs are connecting. Patterns rises to the top of Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. It’s a career first for Ballerini as she scores her first-ever No. 1 album on that list.
“i could cry til i throw up,” wrote the pop-country star, 31, in a Nov. 4 social media post. “thank you for unpacking patterns with me. thank you to every brilliant human that has been a part of the process of bringing it out into the world.”
