U2’s groundbreaking 2023-2024 residency at Sphere in Las Vegas is the subject of a new concert film that will be shown exclusively at the state-of-the-art Vegas venue. V-U2: An Immersive Concert Film at Sphere Las Vegas will officially premiere at Sphere on Friday, September 5.

The movie was co-directed by U2 guitarist The Edge and his wife, choreographer Morleigh Steinberg. It is being described as a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience. V-U2 is the first film ever to be entirely shot using Sphere Entertainment’s ultra-high-resolution camera system Big Sky.
Screenings of the film will utilize all the same technology that made U2’s U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency shows such a dynamic sensory experience. These include the venue’s high-res 160,000-square-foot display plane; immersive audio; and haptic seats, which use vibrations to allow attendees to physically feel the experience they’re viewing.
V-U2 captures one specific show during U2’s 40-date U2:UV residency, which ran from September 29, 2023, to March 2, 2024. The Irish rockers were the first artists to play a residency at the venue.
Comments from The Edge and Morleigh Steinberg
The Edge and Steinberg both issued statements about the film.
“The goal was to give the immersive movie goers as close to the live U2:UV concert experience as possible—and then some,” The Edge said. “I’ve never seen a U2 show. I’m so relieved I caught a great one.”
Added Steinberg, “We knew all the tremendous capabilities of the technology, but we didn’t know what to expect from the process of making this film. The work became a true collaboration between band, artists, producers, and technology teams. The end result is a cinematic experience that transports viewers into the energy and beauty of the live show.”
