The song was teased by both Derulo and Trainor on social media. The throwback feel of the song is in line with Trainor’s doo-wop-inspired sound. Derulo has made a career of consistently switching up his sonic direction. Both artists seem in their element on this nostalgic song.

Baby, put your hands on me / Both hands on me / Right now, you’re the only one I need / So, baby, put your hands on me / Both hands on me / When we dance, put your hands all over me, the chorus reads, mirroring the chorus of King’s ’60s hit.

King wrote “Stand By Me” alongside hitmakers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. “Hands On Me” is the latest in a long line of renditions of King’s song. The timeless ode to lending a helping hand has been recorded countless times. Otis Redding, John Lennon, and Florence and the Machine have notable versions.

Derulo is set to embark on a global tour in November. The trek will include legs in Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, and Switzerland. Derulo also recently commented on an ongoing sexual harassment lawsuit against him, calling the claims “Completely false and hurtful.”

He added, “I’ve always strived to live my life in a positively impactful way, and that’s why I sit here before you today deeply offended by these defamatory claims.”

Her duet with Derulo marks one of many collaborations for Trainor this year. Elsewhere, she has shared songs with Mae Stephens (“Mr Right”), Spencer Sutherland (“Chicken Little”), and Sam Fischer (“Alright”).
