Civil Wars fans have long been hoping for a reunion, but perhaps some new solo material from John Paul White, one half of that ill-fated duo, will suffice in the meantime. White just shared “Simple Song,” a track off an upcoming album from producer Dave Cobb that features, in addition to White, tunes from Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Shooter Jennings, Brandy Clark and many more.

The album, called Southern Family, draws inspiration from a 1978 Civil War song cycle called White Mansions.

“It’s the way it makes you feel, that record,” Cobb tells NPR of White Mansions. “It’s cinematic.”

There’s no official release date for Southern Family yet. Listen to White’s “Simple Song” at NPR Music.
