Kimberly Perry is playing with “Fool’s Gold” on her new song. The catchy country tune finds Perry reflecting on her journey of chasing a dream she thought she wanted, only to realize she needed to go back to her roots to find them.
Be careful hitchin’ up your wagon to/Your wheels might end up spinnin’/Out from under you/You might not like what you find ridin’ off in that sunset/Might wanna chase your dreams right/Back to where you left/’Cause there ain’t no horses in Hollywood/Cowboys on Rodeo/Didn’t do me no good/Foolin’ with that fool’s gold, she proclaims in the chorus.

“Fool’s Gold is about my experience out West, pursuing pop music, and chasing a so-called golden carrot,” Perry explains in a press release. “While I needed that season and that adventure to discover more about who I am, all of it ultimately led me back home to Tennessee, to Johnny, and to country music. Thank God for the dead ends, it’s where we get to spin around and start making our way to our truest selves.”
[REVIEW: Review: Kimberly Perry Blossoms on Solo Debut ‘BLOOM’]
The song appears on her new EP, Superbloom, the extension of her debut solo EP Bloom which was released in June 2023 and featured “If I Die Young Pt. 2.” Superbloom features four new songs and will be released on October 27. “Ever fooled with a person, a place, or a thing that ended up being something different than you thought it’d be? I have,” Perry continues on Instagram. “Once upon a time i dipped my toes in the waters of the wild wild west coast. i thought i’d find EVERYTHING i was looking for…turns out i was only foolin’ myself…The bloom continues…”
Perry rose to fame as one-third of the country trio The Band Perry alongside her brothers Neil and Reid. The band broke off from country music in 2017 in pursuit of a career in pop music. They went on hiatus in 2023, with Perry now embarking on a solo career. She wed her husband Johnny Costello in June 2021 and they welcomed their son Whit in September 2023.
