While selling out arenas on his headlining world tour, an aspiring musician captured the Scottish hitmaker’s attention. Capaldi jumped on social media early Friday morning (May 5) to share a heartwarming moment he recently had with a listener.

Ahead of one of his concerts, he was heading into the venue when he heard someone singing his music. Ticket-holders were lining the streets waiting to enter when Capaldi requested his private driver to pull over.

“Spotted a guy outside my show singing to fans in line,” he wrote. “So, I went out and joined him.”

He jumped out of the car without security nearby and ran directly to the budding artist. Between Capaldi and the street performer was a tall black fence. The divided line did not prevent the vocalist from introducing himself with a handshake.

“I saw you singing on the way in,” Capaldi said.

Capaldi asked the emerging artist if he knew his smash single, “Wish You the Best.” The artist, Jake Cornell, was quick to reply with a confident, ‘I do.’ The two proceeded to lunge into a chilling duet.

“You start it. I’ll join in,” asked Capaldi. “I got you, buddy,” confirmed Cornell.

Cornell did not buckle under pressure and began strumming his acoustic guitar. He tackled the first verse, and Capaldi joined in on the recognizable chorus. As Cornell displayed his captivating vocals, Capaldi cracked a joke behind the fence, “I feel like I’m in jail.”

It’s like Glasgow gets farther from LA | Maybe it’s supposed to be this way,” delivered Cornell before bursting into the chorus with Capaldi. But, oh, my love | I wanna say, ‘I miss the green in your eyes’ | And when I said we could be friends, guess I lied | I wanna say, ‘I wish that you never left’ Oh, but instead, I only wish you the best.

Following the impromptu performance, Capaldi gave Cornell a rowdy round of applause. The two shared a fist pump before going in opposite directions.

The video has already raked in 147K likes and 1.5M views on Instagram alone. His followers quickly flocked to the comments to praise the duet and admire Capaldi’s act of kindness.

Cornell is not an ordinary folk, as he is a Los Angeles-based artist with more than 568K followers on Instagram and 3.2M on TikTok. The breakout star recently released an up-tempo banger titled, “Make You Sick.”

Capaldi previously became one of the first recipients to receive the new BRIT Billion award, for garnering more than 1 billion U.K. streams. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Coldplay, and Sam Smith were also honored.

“Am so buzzing to be one of the first artists ever to be given a “BRIT Billion” award!” said Capaldi, according to  Billboard. “Never in a million years did I think any of this stuff would happen, but now it is. I will gladly accept each and every award; you have my address, x.”

The singer is gearing up to release Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent on May 19.
