Morgan Wallen Honors His Late Mamaw Boots With a Touching Tribute, Talks His First Beer and His First “Real Good” A** Whipping

Spending nearly a decade in country music, Morgan Wallen wasted little time proving himself to be a top talent in the genre. Only releasing three studio albums throughout his time in the spotlight, the country singer completely dominated the airwaves as he received numerous awards including Top Country Artist at the Billboard Music Awards. Thrilled about the success that followed him over the last few years, Wallen recently shared a part of his upbringing, revealing the person who gave him his first beer and wouldn’t hesitate to dish out some stern discipline.

Currently helming his One Night At A Time tour, Wallen traveled to the AT&T stadium. With thousands in attendance, the singer took a moment to remember exactly where he came from. Born in Sneedville, Tennessee, Wallen was surrounded by the Appalachian mountains. While his town only had around 1,300 residents, one of them was his “Mamaw.” Sharing stories about her with fans, Wallen explained, “Mamaw Boots, she was just a super important lady to me growing up. She helped raise me, my sisters, my cousins. She let me have my first cigarette, she let me have my first beer, she’s probably the first person that whipped my a** real good.”

Morgan Wallen Recalls His Mamaw Only Attending One Concert

Although not afraid to discipline her grandchildren, Wallen added, “I just have so many, I have so many fond memories of her growing up. She just means a whole lot to me and my entire family, so that porch just felt like an appropriate place to do my album cover.”

Having such a love for his mamaw, Wallen noted how she never got a chance to see him at the top of country music. But thankfully, she got to see him perform in concert one time. “She only got to come to one show in my life, and it was at the Gray county fair in East Tennessee, and we had about 7,000 people there and that was a huge crowd at the time.”

While only attending one show, Wallen made sure to make it memorable. “It was right when ‘Whiskey Glasses’ was my big single. And I remember, I made sure to put her out front, right where I could see her, right in front of the stage. And I just remember seeing how proud she was.”
