Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, is currently one of the most heavily anticipated films of 2024. One could even argue it’s one of the most heavily anticipated music biopics of all time. The buzz comes as no surprise, as it’s been consistently marketed and includes some of the biggest names in pop culture over the last 100 years. Between Dylan as the subject matter and Chalamet as the actor, people can’t wait to either praise or blame this movie. And the anticipation continues to get hotter as a new trailer was just released today.

Released in July, the original trailer for the film included mere snippets of what the story would entail. Seemingly meant to tease audiences, the original trailer was minimalistic and brief. However, this new trailer is quite the opposite as it includes new footage, new songs, and new characters. That said, the hype surrounding this movie has placed it on a cinematic pedestal, and come Christmas we’ll see if it stays there.
New Cast of Characters
The trailer released in July included a woman who fans speculated to be Joan Baez. Well, those fans who guessed that were correct. The new trailer openly shows and acknowledges Baez as a major character in the film. We won’t go into specifics, as we don’t want to spoil the trailer for you. However, one should expect Baez’s character to get loads of screen time given the new trailer.
The largest difference between the two trailers is the grand reveal of none other than Johnny Cash. After watching the original trailer no one would have suspected Cash to be in the film. Though, that is no longer the case, as the new trailer features the characterization of Cash in several different frames. Like Baez, the trailer alludes to Cash’s presence being one of the major storylines of the epic biopic.
Chalamet Singing New Bob Dylan Tunes
The original trailer merely featured Chalamet singing “A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall.” Whereas the new one includes Chalamet singing “Girl from the North Country” and “Like A Rolling Stone.” In the new trailer, both songs are utilized to split up the different eras of Bob Dylan’s career. But, that is not the entertaining part of these new songs. Rather, fans get a closer look into how Chalamet emulates Dylan’s voice. We don’t have an opinion, so, that’s up to you to decide.
Bigger, bolder, and broader, the new trailer for A Complete Unknown sets a high standard for the upcoming film. Like many music biopics in recent years, they are either joyously celebrated or brashly criticized. It seems there is no in-between, and it would be fair to expect this one to be the same. A Complete Unknown is set to release on Christmas Day 2024.
