The 73-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer began her post with a note to fans.
“Hi All! My end of ’24 good wishes to all,” she wrote. “I always look forward to a new beginning and here we go. Thanks again to all of you who came to see us on tour.”
Hynde began her list with the favorite concerts she saw in 2024, and the first show she mentioned happened to be by the world’s biggest pop superstar.
“Taylor Swift at Wembley Stadium, London,” Hynde wrote. “Beautiful and inspiring. Timeless music… (she’s the girl with the guitar).”
Chrissie also posted an enthusiastic note about the Swift concert after she attended the show back in June.
“I saw Taylor Swift (you may have heard of her) in concert the other day,” Hynde wrote. “Just shows you what a girl with a guitar can do. … So, if you haven’t already – go out there and get yourselves a guitar. You’ll never be alone again as long as you have it by your side.”
Chrissie also mentioned a second favorite concert in her year-end list: “Okean Elzy at The Forum London … Ukraine’s number one rock band in it’s full glory.”
Okean Elzy, which formed in 1994, played the O2 Forum in London on December 4.
Hynde’s Favorite Show She Participated In
Hynde also revealed her favorite concert she was involved in this past year. Although The Pretenders played many shows in Europe and the U.S. in 2024, Chrissie picked a special tribute concert to late alt-rock singer/songwriter Mark Lanegan as the top event in which she participated.
“A heartfelt celebration of the late artist’s music featuring a superb band ([The Pretenders’] James Walbourne on guitar) and glorious vocalists,” she wrote.
The concert, which celebrated what would’ve been Lanegan’s 60th birthday, took place on December 5 at the Roundhouse in London. Hynde sang three songs at the event, which also featured Depeche Mode’s David Gahan, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, The Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli, and The Kills’ Alison Mosshart.
Lanegan, who died in 2022 at age 57, was the frontman of the 1990s grunge band The Screaming Trees and a member Queens of the Stone Age, as well as releasing many solo albums. In addition, he recorded with Dulli as The Gutter Twins, and collaborated with various other artists.
Hynde’s Other 2024 Favorites
Hynde also revealed her favorite movie and TV series of 2024 in her list.
Her top film was the Vatican-themed thriller Conclave, which stars Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci.
“I’ve seen it in the cinema 3 times already,” she wrote. “Gorgeous thriller. Definitely one for the big screen. Breathtaking visuals and much more.”
Hynde’s favorite TV series was Wolf Hall, the U.K. series that takes a fictional look at King Henry VIII’s chief minister, Thomas Cromwell.
Chrissie described the show as “seriously mind blowing in every way. WOW!” She added, “plus I got to meet Damian Lewis (aka Henry VIII) at the Mark Lanegan show.”
Hynde also chose Warsaw, Poland, as her favorite city she visited.
“[B]een wanting to go there for years and it was even prettier than I imagined it would be,” she wrote. The Pretenders performed in Warsaw in September.
In addition, Hynde picked the Orpheum Theatre in Omaha, Nebraska, as her favorite venue where her band played this.
“There were beautiful theaters in all the cities we played, but this one stole my heart,” she noted.
Chrissie wrapped up her year-end list by revealing her “Love” highlight: “Still can’t beat coming home to my dog.”
