A vinyl collection of The Replacements’ later catalog is set to hit shelves this month. Rhino revealed its plans to release a four-record box set that will include the band’s work from its years on Sire Records, including Tim (1985), Pleased To Meet Me (1987), Don’t Tell A Soul (1989) and All Shook Down (1990). The collection, which is titled The Sire Years, is set to be released on Tuesday, Mar. 29 as part of Record Store Day’s “Vinyl Tuesdays” initiative.
The Sire Years serves as a counterpart to the vinyl collection of the group’s earlier Twin/Tone Records catalog, which Rhino released last summer. The limited edition The Sire Years collection (which will only have 8,700 copies) is available for pre-order at a variety of outlets for a suggested price of $74.98.
The Replacements–who are largely considered one of the pioneering bands of alternative rock–made headlines when they signed with Warner Music subsidiary Sire Records in 1984. But it was during their tenure with the major label that the group released much of their most successful content. Tim features the popular tracks “Bastards of Young” and “Here Comes a Regular,” while Pleased To Meet Me spawned the popular “Alex Chilton.” The band’s most successful single on the charts, “I’ll Be You,” peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was the lead single off of 1989’s Don’t Tell a Soul.
Following a 22-year break, The Replacements briefly reunited in 2013, headlining Riot Fest that same year and embarking on sold-out tour in 2014. However, despite murmurs that the group might put together a new album (as reported by Billboard), The Replacements officially disbanded in 2015.
