Willie Nelson Unfazed About Dying and Reveals What Keeps Him Going At 91

While producing one of the most successful careers in country music, Willie Nelson continues to release songs. On November 1st, the country icon released his 76th solo album with Last Leaf on the Tree. With a career dating all the way back to the 1950s, Nelson not only explored a career in music but also on the silver screen. Having spent decades in the entertainment industry, the outlaw legend recently discussed what it was like being 91 years old and how he has no desire to slow down anytime soon. 

Continuing to travel the country, sharing his love for music with fans, some worried about the singer. Not that long ago, Nelson needed to take a break from the stage as he followed the orders from his doctor. While rumors surrounding the hitmaker, he proved all the naysayers wrong when he returned to the spotlight. He recently performed when throwing his support for presidential candidate Kamala Harris. As for his age, he told the Associated Press, “I’m 91 plus, so, you know, I’m not worried about it. I don’t feel bad.” Nelson joked, “I don’t hurt anywhere. I don’t have any reason to worry about dying.”

Willie Nelson Explains What Keeps Him Going

Admitting he continues to take “pretty good care” of himself, Nelson insisted, “And I feel like I’m in pretty good shape physically. Mentally? That’s another story.” Having such a rich career in country music, Nelson discussed his age more than once over the last few years, and he seemed to always thank his fans for keeping him young. “I get a lot of fun out of playing for an audience. There’s a great energy exchange there. It’s what keeps me going.”

While some tend to focus on death when hitting the older years, Nelson appeared excited to celebrate his birthday. And just like the icon, he found a unique way to celebrate given the mixup at the hospital when he was born. “I was born before midnight on the 29th, but it didn’t get registered in the county courthouse until the next day, the 30th. So it went out officially as the 30th. I just do both days.”

Celebrating his birthday on both days, Nelson looked ahead to the future and hoped to cross another milestone by hitting 92 years old.
