Ashley McBryde Says There’s Friendly Competition, “Trash Talk” Between Artists at the CMA Awards

Ashley McBryde is among the country artists who are gearing up to take this stage at the 2023 CMA Awards on November 8. Recently, she revealed that there’s a friendly level of competition and more than a little “trash talk” between artists during the show.

Last week in Hollywood, Florida, McBryde performed at Audacy’s Stars and Strings country concert alongside Hailey Whitters, Cole Swindell, HARDY, Brian Kelley, and Michael Ray. Before hitting the stage, she sat down with Audacy’s Katie Neal to talk about the forthcoming awards show.

The “Light On in the Kitchen” singer cast a light on what goes on behind the scenes. “When you’re in a room full of people that do what you do, it’s nice to be able to sit down and talk trash about each other,” she said, “because we do.” Then, McBryde revealed her favorite trash-talking partner. “Especially Miranda [Lambert] and I. I think that’s why they don’t seat us together anymore,” she said, laughing.

However, she clarified that it was all in good fun. “We give each other a hard time, but we’re always cheering each other on. Especially the women in country music,” McBryde said. “We all are really good at challenging each other and showing up for each other at the same time.”

McBryde will have plenty of stage time at this year’s CMA Awards. She is going into the show with three nominations, for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for Lindeville, and Music Video of the Year for “Light On in the Kitchen.” She’ll also perform that song during the event.

It’s a shame that McBryde and Lambert won’t sit together during the CMA Awards. They’re both up for Female Vocalist of the Year. It’s also the only award Lambert is nominated for this year. One can only assume that the trash talk, ribbing, and cheering-on would be legendary.

The 2023 CMA Awards takes place this Wednesday, November 8, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Fans can watch the show live on ABC. Additionally, it will stream on Hulu and the ABC app. Country music’s biggest night starts at 8 p.m. ET.
