Listen: Brandy Clark Reflects on Lost Love In Heartfelt New Track “My Favorite Christmas”

Brandy Clark taps into the bittersweet feeling of nostalgia in her new holiday-themed track “My Favorite Christmas.” Released today (October 27), the co-write with longtime friend and collaborator Shane McAnally looks back on a past relationship with gratitude rather than bitterness.

Known for her brilliance as a thoughtful and sincere storyteller, Clark again proves her talents on this sweeping tune. As she looks back on tender moments shared with a former love during the winter season, the complicated mix of joy and heartbreak old memories can excavate. Producer Jordan Brooke Hamlin helps mold a timeless, layered soundscape that perfectly accompanies Clark’s sparkling, raw vocals.

Where you are this Christmas Eve night
I hope yours is white and not blue
I drifted so far
But isn’t that life?
Guess some wishes aren’t meant to come true
Still, my favorite Christmas was you

“I love a classic Christmas song,” Clark shared in a statement. “That’s what Shane McAnally and I were trying to write when we wrote ‘My Favorite Christmas.’ I hope it conveys that melancholy feeling that we can feel when we are missing someone around the holidays.”

To coincide with the release, Clark has also shared her take on the holiday classic “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Earlier this month, the acclaimed singer/songwriter dropped a powerful music for “Dear Insecurity,” featuring Brandi Carlile. The track is Clark’s latest single from her fourth self-titled studio record, which Carlile produced.
