Buried Treasure: Jeffrey Lewis and Diane Cluck, “Travel Light”

Jeffrey Lewis’s new album ‘Em Are I is out today. While that one should be widely available, here’s a rare track (only a few hundred copies were pressed) called “Travel Light,” a duet with fellow anti-folk artist Diane Cluck from 2001. This ode to living the freewheelin’ lifestyle boils down the anti-folk aesthetic — acoustic guitars, offbeat hooks, artistic cross-pollination, and clever wordplay.

You don’t get lyrics like this every day:

“When I was an astronaut, I didn’t take my boots
when I was a coal miner, I didn’t know the news
When I was a record store, I didn’t have the blues
I travel light and that’s enough for me.”

It’s the kind of song that will be stuck in your head by the time it’s halfway over. The video leaves a little to be desired, but check out this one if you need more visual stimulation.
