Popular HBO music comedy Flight of the Conchords will return to the airwaves this Sunday for its second season, and there are a few surprises in store for fans of the zany New Zealand duo.

On April 14, towards the end of the show’s season, a ten song album and five extra songs will be up for download in its entirety. Those who don’t want to wait for their dose of Jemaine and Bret can also purchase songs featured in each new episode the day after they air.

The album can be pre-ordered from Sub Pop’s website, with customers receiving one track per week until the April release date. The first new song from the duo, titled “Angels,” hits digital shelves January 19.

Fans who purchase either the album or its singles can also expect extended versions of the often-short (usually about a minute long) songs performed on the show. The new Conchords material will also span several genres.

“More than one of them leans on a ’70s soul sound,” said Tony Kiewel, head of Sub Pop’s A&R. “I’ve also heard this choir-y sort of thing, a Meat Loaf-y sort of thing and a crazy top 40-type jam.”

Conchords has already seen significant success for previous efforts, with 2007 EP The Distant Future winning a Grammy for best comedy album. The follow-up full length, which has sold an impressive 237,000 copies so far, is also up for a comedy Grammy this year.
