One of the latest sites to launch in the social networking and discovery trend will be HMV’s latest project, getcloser.com. According to Billboard.biz, HMV, an entertainment specialist popular in the U.K. and Canada, hopes that the site will “bridge the gap between the physical and online entertainment sales environments.”

With all of the social networking and entertainment sites out there already, what, you ask, will allow getcloser.com to bridge this widening gap? The site will allow users to build their own profile, called “DNA,” based upon their own personal ratings of various content found either on the site or the visitor’s personal library (iTunes libraries can be imported to profiles). In addition to their own “DNA” leading them to new content, their profiles will also connect them to other users with similar interests.

HMV Director of E-Commerce Gideon Lask sums up the site’s goal simply: “We wanted to do something ground-breaking and different for music and film fans that is less about random socializing and networking, and more about them sharing their passion for their favorite artists, songs and movies.”
If you’re interested in being a part of getcloser.com, the site will open to the public on July 1. A full launch is scheduled for this fall.
