James Stroud Announces New Label
James Stroud, the award-winning Nashville producer, has accomplished a lot during his career. After forming The Writers Group, a thriving Nashville publishing company, he helped Giant Records and DreamWorks Nashville come to fruition and was named Billboard's "Top Country Producer" two years in a row. His producing credits include Alabama, Tim McGraw, Clint Black, Willie Nelson, Melissa Etheridge and The Neveille Brothers, to name a few. To date, Stroud has produced albums that have collectively sold over 52 million copies, as well as more than 90 No. 1 records.
With the launch of Stroudavarious Records, Stroud's new independent record label, the producer has added another notch on his list of accomplishments. The label will be distributed by RED a division of Sony BMG Entertainment, an industry leader in independent distribution. "Even though the business model of the music industry changes, the one constant has been the importance of the artists and their songs," said Stroud. "The vision of Stroudavarious Records will be for the creativity to take precedent and allow the music to take care of the business." The artist roster and staff members for Stroudavarious Records will be announced in coming weeks.

TRADING COUNTRY FOR R+R
————————————————————
NOW DONT YOU THINK
YOUR SOMETHING
ROCKIN DOWN
THE BLVD.
OF BROKEN DREAMS
STOLEN MOMENTS
OF BROKEN SCENES
OF THOSE WHO SEAM
YOUR SWEET SO CALLED SOMETHING
MURDERED SOME ONES HEART
YOU CANT BLAME ME IF
I COULDNT KNEEL ENOUGH
LOOK AT YOU
STROLLING DOWN THAT ROAD
TRADING COUNTRY
FOR ROCK AND ROLL
SO LET THE WHEELS
OF FORTUNE TURN
NOTHING LEFT TO PROVE
AND HE WHO PAYS THE PIPER
CALLS THE TUNE
ILL JUST LOOK AT YOU
STROLL DOWN THAT ROAD
TRADING COUNTRY
FOR ROCK AND ROLL
LOSIN BIT BY BIT
ALONG THE WAY
TO FAME AND FORTUNE
I SEE YOU EVERY DAY
I BET YOU DIDNT EVEN
NOTICE I WAS GONE
SO IVE BEEN HOLDING ON
YOUR SWEET SO CALLED SOMETHING
MURDERED SOME ONES HEART
YOU CANT BLAME ME IF
I COULDNT KNEEL ENOUGH
YOU’VE INSULTED ME IN
EVERY POSSIBLE WAY
NOW I’VE GOT NOTHIN
MORE LEFT TO SAY
THE MORE I TRY
TO CLIMB THAT LATTER
THE MORE I FALL
I GUESS MY LIFE WASNT BOUT NOTHING
for you,…AFTER ALL
===================
is christmas over yet?
===================
I STILL SEE GLITTER
THROUGH THE DOORWAY
ANOTHER HOUSE
OF BROKEN DREAMS
WHEN THE BACK HAND
OF MY OLD MAN
USED TO LAND
ON THE SIDE OF MY HEAD
SO I LEARNED TO STAY
OUT OF HIS WAY
BUT THATS ALL RIGHT
CAUSE IM OKEY
AINT NOTHING BUT
ANOTHER DAY
AND SO I SAY
IS CHRISTMAS OVER YET?????
=====
SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS
DONT COME ROUND HERE
DONT DANCE THESE STREETS
OF BLOOD N BEER
WE RAN OUTTA TIME
AND TIME FORGOT
CAUSE YOU’VE BEEN GONE
FOR SO DAMN LONG
SO DONT BOTHER KNOCK
CAUSE NO ONES HOME
YOU SOLD IT OUT
BODY AND SOUL
AT THE PAWN SHOP
DOWN THE ROAD
FOR A CHILD IN A MANGER
IN SWADDLING CLOTHS
====
ITS GONNA TAKE MORE
THAT RIBBONS AND BOWS
TO UNWRAP THE CRADLE
LEFT ON YOUR DOOR
THE MAN ON THE CORNER
DRESSED IN RED
THE SMELL OF WHISKEYS
ON HIS BREATH
HE’S WEARIN A SMILE
THAT CANT HIDE THE PAIN
MIGHT AS WELL PUT
A GUN TO HIS HEAD
SO HE SAY’S, GET IT OVER WITH
I CANT STOP THESE
VOICES IN MY HEAD
SAYIN OVER N OVER N OVER AGAIN
IM SCARED TO DEATH
IS CHRISTMAS OVER YET??????
====
NOW GLITTER ON THE
WINDOWS STILL SHINE
AND THE CHRISTMAS
SPIRT STILL RYMES
BACK IN THE DAY
WHEN THE BACK HAND
OF MY OLD MAN
USED TO LAND
ON THE SIDE OF MY HEAD
BACK WHEN I COULD STILL FORGET
THIS FEEL OF HOMESICK
CAUSE NO ONE CARED ENOUGH
TO KEEP YOUR GHOST ALIVE
SO WHAT’S NEXT, IS CHRISTMAS OVER YET???????
===========
BECAUSE YOU SAID SO / ANOTHER ANGEL FALLS
==========================================
I WOKE UP TWO TIMES LAST NIGHT
AND I WAS SCARED TO DEATH
YOU WERE, TOSSING AND TURNING
I HAD A BAD FEELING BOUT THIS
I COULD FEEL YOU BURNIN UP
YOUR EYES SHINING IN THE DARK
YOUR BROKE LIKE FIRE ON GLASS
TEARS POURING THROUGH THE CRACKS
AS THE FEVER GROWS HIGHER
YOUR TALKIN IN YOUR SLEEP
BOUT WHAT YOU WONT DARE TELL ME
I HOLD MY BREATH TO HEAR YOU WHISPER
=====
DO YOU LOVE ME? AND SO YOU SAID NO
YOU SAID NO IT WASNT ME
I BIT MY LIPS HARD NOT TO SCREAM
OF WHAT YOU’VE DONE AND WHAT IVE SEEN
I AINT THE ONE WHO MAKES YOU SIGN
UNDERNEATH THE COVERS DEAP IN THE NIGHT
(I WONDER) WHATS MY NAME GONNA BE TONIGHT????
I HOLD MY BREATH TO HEAR YOU WHISPER
YOUR WHISPER SAID NO IT WASNT ME
IT WASNT ME MELTIN YOUR SOUL
ITS JUST ME JUST ANOTHER GHOST
N SO ANOTHER ANGEL FALLS IM AT THE BOTTOM OF BROKEN
BECAUSE YOU SAID SO BECAUSE YOU SAID NO
=====
AS THE FEVER GROWS HIGHER
YOU WERE TALING IN YOUR SLEEP
YOU WERE KICKIN AND SCREAMIN
THE WALLS ARE CLOSIN IN ON ME
YOUR WERE TALKIN IN YOUR SLEEP
BOUT HOW I WOULDNT UNDERSTAND
DONT, DONT SAY WHAT IM ABOUT TO HEAR
I WOULD RATHER BE DEAD
(I HOLD MY BREATH TO HEAR YOU WHISPER)
=====
DO YOU LOVE ME? AND SO YOU SAID NO
YOU SAID NO IT WASNT ME
I BIT MY LIPS HARD NOT TO SCREAM
OF WHAT YOU’VE DONE AND WHAT IVE SEEN
I AINT THE ONE WHO MAKES YOU SIGN
UNDERNEATH THE COVERS DEAP IN THE NIGHT
SO TELL ME, WHO’S HEART YOU GONNA PUT A BULLET IN TONIGHT
(I WONDER) WHOS HEART YOU GONNA BREAK TONIGHT???
YOU HAVE TO SAY I NEED TO KNOW
DID YOU EVER LOVE ME? YOUR WHISPER SAID NO
IT WASNT ME, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN
BY THE WAY YOU LOOKED AT ME AND CRIED
THEN AGAIN YOU NEVER SAID A WORD
A PERFECT WORLD BEFORE THE FALL
SO JUST LIKE THAT ANOTHER ANGEL FALLS
JUST BECAUSE YOU SAID SO
=====
IN A HURRY I DRESS TO LEAVE
AWAY FROM YOU AND WHO I USED TO BE
I DONT HAVE A HEART STRONG ENOUGH FOR BOTH OF US
WHEN THE GHOST(S) COME(S) TO TOWN
I BET YOU WONT EVEN NOTICE THAT IM GONE (IM NOT AROUND)
SO I GUESS I GOTTA GO (I THINK ITS TIME TO GO)
BECAUSE I SAID SO
LIE TO ME WHEN YOU WAKE
CAUSE I DONT KNOW HOW MUCH MORE I CAN TAKE
AND I KNOW ITS MORE THAN CLEAR
IM JUST ANOTHER GHOST AT THE BOTTOM OF BROKEN
AND SO ANOTHER ANGEL FALLS
BECAUSE YOU SAID NO
WHEN YOU STOPPED CALLING OUT FOR ME
IT WAS YOU HIM YOU WAS CALLING FOR
IT WAS HIM, IT WASNT ME
I heard that Louise Mandrell has signed with this label as well!
Dear Mr.James or reader
My name is Matt Marshall, i am a local Artist here in Nashville. I heard through friends on the row that you were starting your own label. Congrats! I am not a song-writer, just singer/entertainer. I have been recording songs here for about 5yrs. Mr. Tom Shapiro has been pitchn me songs along with Kelly Lovelace and Roger Murrah of Bug Music, also picked up a few songs from Mark Springer and Bill Anderson, Tracy Bryd, Tony Martin and Mark Nesler, Frank Rogers and Tim Nichols as well. Was wondering if i culd drop a cd by sometime or you can look me up on myspace.com/mattmarshallmusic. Thanks so much.

Dear James…It’s been a long time, but I met you when Giant was just cranking up. I was in town pitching for my NC. writers and you said to stay in touch, as you always liked that NC/R & B influence on the country material I had at the time…Still got em and still trying to pitch em. Award winning writer from the NC band “Nantucket”…Tommy Redd, has uncanny wonderful songs. Would you like to hear one or two? Getting old but still crazy for the real stuff…….Regards, Dan Dixon
Hello, James.
I have fond memories of you and your folks and Vicki, in Shreveport, in 1976. I was in the Air Force, and was friends with your family. Played you a tune, in your mom’s living room….
Anyway, I just found you online, and maybe I’ll send you some originals. I kept practicing my writing, as you suggested decades ago, and I think you’ll be pleased at all that has come to fruition.
God bless you, friend.

James, it has been no “free lunch”, my friend: but the music never stopped. What else do we know? “And the beat goes on.” You’re so deserving of all you have earned. I remember recording at Malaco before all of the mics and booth were finished – then passing through in about ’72 while doing the motel circuits, you showed me this cool drum fill… and at Bachelor’s 3 in Ft. Lauderdale. Please don’t ever retire! The artists and the industry needs you. MUSIC needs you!
Love & Peace, always! David Shelton
James I first met you years when I was a regular entertainer at
Alamo Village in Brackettville ,Texas when you and some of your friends were on a motorcycle trip. I am now a staff songwriter for Big Sugar Publishing here in Texas. I have
a catalog of over fifty songs I feel would be good for many of the
country artist you represent.
Thank you,and GodBless you
