Deadheads rejoice-producers Albert Berger, Ron Yerxa and Eric Eisner (who can collectively take production credit for such films as Little Miss Sunshine and Hamlet 2) have just inked a deal to produce an as-of-yet untitled biopic about the late, great Jerry Garcia.

The film will focus on an aspect of Garcia’s life that has not yet received a great deal of attention-the time when he was just Jerry Garcia, not the frontman for what many consider to be one of the greatest live rock acts of all time. This early footage will include Garcia’s experience with a tragic car crash, his career in the military, the death of his father, and other insight into his youth and family life. The film will also cover Garcia’s foray into the San Francisco music scene.

In order to present such information to the public, the trio of producers sought out rights to the Garcia historical biography “Dark Star.” Such Garcia experts as relatives and former bandmates provide the accounts of the musician’s life in the book.

Despite the endless supply of Dead-related memorabilia and information out there, this will be the first film to take on the daunting task of presenting Garcia’s life to the public. It is rumored that Topper Lillien will write the screenplay. No other details (director, casting, release date, etc.) have been released.
